BOTOX
What exactly is Botox?
Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators are substances that act on the nervous system to change nerve activity. In the case of this treatment, they block signals from nerves to muscles. When botulinum toxin, AKA Botox, is injected under the skin, it stops the nerves in the area from talking to the nearby muscles. Now, no matter how much the nerves tell the muscles to move as the face moves and emotes, they won't. The skin on top, as a result, stays smooth and youthful.
Botox has been one of the most popular cosmetic treatments on the market since its debut in 1989. It's FDA-approved and can be used repeatedly at the client's discretion. Incredibly, this treatment isn't just used to treat cosmetic concerns. It's also used to treat medical concerns that are caused by nerve-muscle communication, such as platysma muscle pain, hyperhidrosis, and TMJ. Botox treatment for muscle pain and excessive sweating works in the same way, blocking signals between nerves and muscles.
Common Questions
What Are Dynamic Wrinkles?
Dynamic wrinkles are the wrinkles that form as a result of muscle movement. Over time, repetitive muscle movement can cause the skin to crease, leading to the formation of lines and wrinkles. Common dynamic wrinkles include crow's feet, smile lines, and forehead lines. They are different from static wrinkles, which are caused by sagging skin and a loss of collagen. While dynamic wrinkles are a natural part of aging, there are several factors that can contribute to their formation, including sun damage, smoking, and dehydration.
What Will My Treatment Be Like?
Initial Consultation
The first step of this process will be to come in for a chat with a member of our expert staff here at Nurse Jayme Aesthetics. We will assess your wrinkles and areas of concern and make sure this treatment will work to correct them aptly. We'll also elevate your medical history and any medications you might be on to ensure you're a healthy candidate. You can also ask us any questions you might have about treatment. If everyone's happy, we'll draw up a unique treatment plan for you.
Your Appointment
On the day of your session, which will take place right here in our Andover office, you'll be asked to come in with a clean face. We'll offer soothing options to make this process stress free, such as a stress ball. Then we will use very fine needles to inject the product into the muscles. Many patients report they cannot feel these injections. We will carefully follow along with the treatment plan and should be all done after roughly twenty minutes. You won't require any downtime afterward.
How Long Do the Results Last?
The gorgeous results of this treatment typically last 3-4 months. However, this can vary from person to person and factors like how quickly their body metabolizes the product. It also depends on how many units are injected, as well as where the injections are given. For example, results tend to last longer in areas that don't move much, such as the forehead. Additionally, people who have received these injections regularly may find that the results last longer over time.
What Can I Do To Make the Results Last Longer?
There are a few things that you can do in the first 24 hours after treatment that can help make your results last longer. First, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area. This will help to prevent the product from moving around, which diminishes its effectiveness. Second, avoid exposure to heat or excessive sun exposure. Again, this will help to keep the Botox from breaking down prematurely. Finally, avoid strenuous activity or exercise, as sweating can also cause the Botox to spread.
Who Is a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
The best candidates are those who are looking to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face; this treatment is most commonly used on people between the ages of 18 and 65. Additionally, good candidates for this treatment will have realistic expectations about what the treatment can achieve. Finally, candidates should be in generally good health with no history of serious medical conditions. It is important to note that it is not recommended for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What Are Some Other Cosmetic Treatments Available?
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning involves using a sterile blade to carefully remove dead skin cells and vellus hair from the face. This treatment can leave the skin feeling softer and smoother, and can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It's a great option for those whose skin is dull and tired-looking. It typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. There is no downtime associated with dermaplaning, and most people can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure.
Chemical Peel
A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin by applying a chemical solution to its surface. This causes the dead skin cells to peel off, revealing new skin underneath that is brighter, smoother, and less wrinkled than the old skin. Chemical peels can be done on the neck, face, or even hands. It treats concerns like hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and fine lines. Like dermaplaning, it can be an excellent treatment for those who want to stay away from needles.
